Are you vexed or are you vexed?
Vexed - Kataponeo as used in 2 Peter 2:7 means to tire down with toil, exhaust with labor, to afflict with evils. This same word is used of those who will spend eternity in torment. Then there is Vexed (basanizo) as used in 2 Peter 2:8. This word means to test (metals) by the touchstone, which is a black siliceous stone used to test the purity of gold or silver by the color of the streak produced on it by rubbing it with either metal. Lot here was tormented by the sin that was all around him, and at the same time, his righteous soul was being rubbed by The Touchstone testing his purity. Our vexation as believers is more like the Basanizo than the Kataponeo. God does not torture us, He lovingly tests. (2 Peter 2:4-10)
