"But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes." (1 John 2:11 ESV)
The one who loves himself more than his brother not only is in the darkness, but loves living in that darkness. His comprehension of the truth is clouded and he does not know that he is being led away by the very darkness he loves.
